Montreal 2015
IAMCR'S 2015 conference was held July 12-16 2015 in Montreal, Canada. Hosted by the Faculté de communication at the Université du Québec à Montréal, IAMCR 2015 was the first IAMCR conference in North America. The conference theme was: Hegemony or Resistance? Communiquer, a journal published by the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), host of IAMCR’s 2015 conference, has just published a special issue based on the conference theme, Hegemony or Resistance? On the Ambiguous Power of Communication. The issue features a selection of papers presented at the conference, in their original language and in French.
Patricia Lima is a health communication researcher in Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health. She received a travel grant to attend IAMCR 2015 in Montreal and to present her paper, "Patterns and risk communication issues during the contingency against Chikungunya in print media of Paraguay, from June to October 2014" to the Environment, Science and Risk Communication Working Group.
K.S. Mochish is a Doctoral Fellow at the School of Media and Cultural Studies of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, India. He received a travel grant to present the paper “Negotiating Gender and Caste Publicly: An Analysis of the Struggles of a Woman Tribal Leader in Wayanad, India” to the Gender and Communication Section.
Luíza Alvim was temporarily employed as a lecturer in communication at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil when she received a travel grant to attend IAMCR's 2015 conference in Montreal. She presented her paper, “Rhythms of images and sounds: an analysis of films by Robert Bresson”, in the Visual Culture Working Group.

Nelly Lara, a PhD student in the Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), received a travel grant to attend IAMCR's 2015 conference in Montreal. Her paper, Discursive practices of women artists in Mexico City's Hip Hop culture, was presented in the Gender and Communication Section.
Sanchari De, a research scholar at Jadavpur University in India, received a travel grant to attend IAMCR 2015 in Montreal and present her paper Political Mobilization and the Network of Shared Cultural Connectivity: An Attempt to Locate The Shahbag Movement in Bangladesh beyond the Realm of Virtual Sphere to the Emerging Scholars Network.
Brian Pindayi from Rusangu University in Zambia received a travel grant to attend IAMCR 2015 in Montreal and present his work Press framing of the (2014-2015) Ebola crisis: A comparative case study of, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe to the Communication and HIV/AIDS Working Group.
Rosemary Chikafa from the Department of English and Media Studies of the University of Zimbabwe received a travel grant to attend IAMCR 2015 in Montreal and present her work Hegemony or Resistance? An African(a) womanist reading of Sembene’s Moolaade to the Gender and Communication Section.

On July 6, 2015 an informational letter was emailed to registered IAMCR 2015 participants. It features information about arriving in Montreal and registration, as well as a few tips about things to look forward to and information about web-streaming and use of social media during the conference.
IAMCR is pleased to announce that the 2015 New Directions for Climate Communication Research Fellowship will be awarded to Dr. Cornelia Brantner for her proposal Comparing Climate Change Discourse and Deliberation on Twitter: Topics, Arguments, Actors, Networks, and Discourse Quality. An honorable mention will be awarded to Christopher Shaw.
IAMCR is pleased to announce that the 2015 award in memory of Stuart Hall will be presented to Faith Kibere, a fourth year PhD candidate at the University of Leicester in the UK for her paper "The Politics of Representation in Kibera Slum, Kenya".
IAMCR and the Urban Communication Foundation are pleased to announce that the 2015 UCF/IAMCR Urban Communication Research Grant will be awarded to Olesya Venger, Assistant Professor at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Thirteen travel grants of US$1,500 each have been awarded to support the participation of IAMCR members at our upcoming conference in Montreal.
