Overview

The BEng Electrical Engineering programme will expose you to the fundamentals of electrical engineering (EE), such as conventional and renewable power generation, transmission, and distribution, electromechanical devices, protection and management. It will also equip you with the necessary electronic and algorithmic knowledge that forms an integral part of today’s electrical systems in wide-ranging applications (from small electronic gadgets to large power system).

The modern world’s electrical infrastructure is becoming more critical and complex than before due to the increasing adoption of the digital lifestyle, electrified transportation, and renewable generation. The learning of electrical engineering therefore goes beyond the classical electrical subjects of generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy. In Year Two, you will learn the fundamental theories and working principles of electrical and electronics. In Year Three, you will learn more specialised knowledge about energy conversion, electromechanical systems, power systems, digital and power electronics, and also integrated circuits. In Year Four, you will have the option to expose yourself to more advanced subjects ranging from micro-/electronics to smart power grids.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AT XJTLU?

  • This programme has a 2+2 articulation route to BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the University of Liverpool (UoL), with either an EE or EEE pathway. UoL is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK universities;
  • Successful completion through the 4+0 (four years at XJTLU) or 2+2 (two years at XJTLU and two years at UoL) route will lead to the awarding of two globally recognised degrees: an XJTLU degree recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education, and a UK degree from the University of Liverpool. The 4+0 route leads to a UoL EE degree and the 2+2 route leads to a UoL EEE degree;
  • The programme is accredited by the UK Institute of Engineering Technology (IET). IET is a world-leading professional organisation working on sharing and advancing knowledge as well as promoting science, engineering, and technology across the world;
  • Learn from academic staff trained at reputable universities and institutions worldwide, and have the opportunity to engage in undergraduate research projects during your summers;
  • Access the newly launched (2022) multi-million RMB laboratory/computing facility consisting of 150 workstations, and conduct laboratory work using the state-of-the-art EEE lab equipment; and
  • Have the opportunities to participate in field visits to energy- and power-related companies, and take part in internships at various local and international corporations (such as Littelfuse and REenergy Electric) located in Suzhou Industrial Park and surrounding areas.
