Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) researchers recently received 15 funding awards from provincial and national bodies.

The largest award, 3 million RMB, goes to a zero-carbon building energy router project. Dr Huiqing Wen, Academic Dean of the XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology and Senior Associate Professor of XJTLU’s School of Advanced Technology, will lead the joint project with Soochow University, Suzhou Vocational University, and the Yangdigang (Suzhou) Architecture Science Research Institute.

The project will conduct research in the fields of new energy, energy saving and carbon reduction, and cutting edge-technology, looking for innovative ways to ease bottlenecks in the design of energy routers. In particular, it will research aspects of multi-port zero-carbon building energy routers based on gallium nitride (GaN), a material on the rise for use in power integration.

“Our project will integrate industrial needs, education, and research, and will promote the application of GaN power integration research to industry through in-depth interactions with key enterprises and collaborative development,” says Dr Wen.

The funding for this 2022 Jiangsu Carbon Peak Carbon Neutrality Technology Innovation Programme award in the Frontier Research Category comes from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

XJTLU won funds for the first time in the Excellent Young Scholar category of the 2022 Jiangsu S&T Fundamental Research Scheme (Natural Science Foundation). Dr Xiaojun Zhu of XJTLU’s School of Science received this funding from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology to study reliability estimation and optimal design of “one-shot” device test data.

Other 2022 Jiangsu S&T Fundamental Research Scheme awards went to the following XJTLU staff:
Dr Yuqing Chen, School of Advanced Technology, in the Young Scholar Programme category;
Dr Qifeng Lu, School of CHIPS, in the Young Scholar Programme category;
Dr Meng Ding, School of Science, in the Young Scholar Programme category;
Dr Hanci Chi, School of Science, in the Young Scholar Programme category;
Dr Wei Zhang, Design School, in the Young Scholar Programme category; and
Dr Wei Wang, School of Advanced Technology, in the General Programme category.

The following XJTLU staff received 2022 Natural Science Foundation of the Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions of China awards, which is funded by the Jiangsu Education Department. All were awarded in the General Programme category:
Dr Qifeng Lu, School of CHIPS;
Dr Jingxin Liu, School of AI and Advanced Computing;
Dr Meng Ding, School of Science;
Dr Xujun Liu, School of Science;
Dr Yue Li, School of Advanced Technology; and
Dr Xi Yang, School of Advanced Technology.
Dr Huakang Li of the School of AI and Advanced Computing received a 2022 China National Intellectual Property Patent Special Research Programme award from the China National Intellectual Property Administration. He will lead a project on the application of sematic technology in patent examination.
