In order to come to China and study at XJTLU, you are required to apply for a student visa. You need to make the application in our own country or where you are living before entering China.
Recommended arrival date for students travelling with permission from overseas to Chinese Mainland is Wednesday 28th July. This allows for 28 days’ hotel quarantine before accommodation check-in. All transfers for students arriving from overseas are provided by the authorities. This date is not fixed but is recommended for release from quarantine to engage with all of the on-campus induction activities. You can, of course, arrive before and after this date as suits your needs.
Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th August: Pudong, Hongxiao and Wuxi airports for students travelling to Suzhou from inside Chinese Mainland. Please complete the questionnaire to book the service with us. Here is the link: https://xjtlustaff.wjx.cn/vj/OruHaOZ.aspx.
As well as the COVID-19 precautions that you need to conform to, all students should read our advice about preparing for a happy and healthy stay in China.
XJTLU provides on-site support to help you check into your accommodation.
As required by law, you must register at the police station which is in charge of public security in the area where your accommodation is located. Violation of this regulation will lead to a penalty, such as a fine of 200RMB per day.
You need to go to the police station right after you are released from your centralized quarantine or self-isolation. Or you can use the police’s official WeChat account to register. Please refer to Must-dos after Arriving in Chinese Mainland for a step-by-step guide.
All students are required to do health checks: international, Mainland Chinese, China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students. According to the Exit and Entry Law, international students need to make an appointment in advance and then go to the Suzhou International Travel Healthcare Centre to do the health check. Please note that the health reports will be used for your residence permit application at the Exit and Entry Bureau. For guidance on how to make an appointment with the healthcare centre, please refer to Must-dos after Arriving in Chinese Mainland.
The health check for China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students will take place on campus on 31st August.
Before the health check in the morning, students mustn’t eat any food. For the afternoon session, students must stop eating food two hours before the test.
International students who will stay in China for more than six months have to apply for a residence permit after their arrival in China. Due to the pandemic and quarantine, students are allowed to apply for their residence permits within 45 days of arrival. The 45 days are counted from the entry date which is indicated on the Chinese entry stamp on your passport. XJTLU will help you apply for this residence permit by preparing the documents and providing onsite support if necessary.
University registration is an essential process for all students to complete at the beginning of each academic year, which involves two parts: on-site registration and online registration.
This year’s on-campus registration will take place on Friday 27th August. Please come to the Central Building (CB) between 09:00 and 12:00 or 13:00 and 16:00.
Please bring your passport, Mainland Travel Permit (China’s HK, Taiwan and Macao students) or Chinese Identification Card (Chinese visiting students), and ensure that your green health code is active.
For instructions about the online registration, please refer to the 2021/22 Year 1 Registration Guide: https://box.xjtlu.edu.cn/smart-link/3900920d-0271-4374-82fd-16872cfa4ebd/.
