Python, the world’s most popular computer programming language, has received a boost courtesy of Dr Sebastian Wild from our Department of Computer Science who solved a long-standing algorithmic puzzle to speed up a core building block of Python. 👏 It means that hundreds of millions of users will now enjoy sorting getting ever so slightly faster. Even though the improvement for many inputs is tiny, the sheer number of #python installations can lead to significant energy saving on a global scale. Unilever is one of the world’s most global companies – and it’s also one of the UK’s largest companies. I am very proud of Unilever’s footprint in the country: we have over 6,000 employees across 21 sites in 8 regions. The UK is also home to three (of our six) global research and development (R&D) hubs; a third of our global R&D workforce is based here; and we invest £250m annually in R&D. You can find a Unilever product in 98% of UK homes. A new Oxford Economics report outlines the scale of our impact on the British economy: an annual contribution to UK GDP of around £1.5bn. A huge well done to our UK-based teams up and down the country, who are helping to boost innovation, improve living standards, and create a more skilled workforce.🎉 https://bit.ly/3gYsLil
