1/ IAMCR 2022 BEIJING, PCR CALL FOR PAPERS

The Participatory Communication Research Section of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites the submission of proposals for papers and panels for IAMCR 2022. The PCR call highlights the relevance of participation and participatory communication to deal with the contemporary challenges of neo-globalisation as well as its potential to build a shared vision for the times ahead in a number of issues.

The main theme for IAMCR 2022, “Communication Research in the Era of Neo-Globalisation: Reorientations, Challenges and Changing Contexts” is concerned with possibilities for rethinking communication research agendas in the post-pandemic world, which has seen dramatic shifts in the way we interact and understand our physical, social, cultural, political and material environments.

The conference will be held online from 11 to 15 July 2022. The conference will also have a national hub at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The deadline for submission is 9 February 2022, at 23.59 UTC. Please find the call here: https://iamcr.org/beijing2022/cfp-pcr

2/ CHANGE IN THE PCR SECTION HEAD COMPOSITION

The Participatory Communication Research Section hereby informs that Jonas Agerbæk Jeppesen will be no longer available to serve as vice-chair of the PCR section. His decision was taken after thoughtful reflection in face of personal and new projects ahead. Jonas was elected for this position (2016 and 2020) and was fully committed to the section. The PCR Head is very grateful for his constant involvement and especially for the many hours spend in structuring the backstage operational flow of the PCR in conferences and section's other events and wish him all the best in his future projects. Therefore, the PCR section head will function as a five-person head till 2024 when new elections are due.

3/ SEASON’S GREETINGS

2021 has been a rollercoaster of a year with various mutations and strains of covid-19 affecting geographies differently. The vaccines brought along hope and firm belief in science. With the pandemic still very much a reality, we keep constant vigil of ourselves, family, friends and society at large. Although we are better prepared than we were when the pandemic began we cannot close our eyes to the uncertainties and inequalities, especially from the perspective of participation and social change. This season reminds us of the importance of hope and humility.

As Head of the PCR Section, Ana, Doris, Arun, Piyu and Ana Lúcia, express our gratitude to the members for sharing this time with us, at the conferences and beyond them. Our best wishes to all of you. Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year!
